We also got the state Gator Control to stop a trapper from catching and killing a larger gator 12-14 ft this morning. Another neighbor was scared because of it's size and wanted it removed. We live in a conservation area and the pond is posted as NO FISHING AND NO SWIMMING. Most neighbors respect the wildlife and enjoy watching the alligators, birds, turtles and even the otters. It's only when people disrepect the law by feeding or trespassing or allowing their dogs to run free, even though we have a leash law...that problems begin...and it always ends badly for the animals...in this case the alligator.
It certainly would not have been good press if we were rescuing one gator while another was being trapped and destroyed. We are proud of the instant action of the state - they took instant action...and the trappers already had there hook and bait in the water...when they were told to stop.
Now, we just need to keep watch for the netted gator and get the net off so he can eat and return to doing what a gator does.
We appreciate your putting our story on your website.
